According to Ms. Debbie Heimowitz, a Stanford University Masters student, cyber bullying is a modern crime instigated by the anonymity of the Internet.  Cyber bullying is when someone is threatened, harassed, humiliated, or otherwise targeted using the Internet, digital technologies, or mobile phones.  This includes texting.  This terrible crime frequently starts when someone posts something hateful or humiliating on the internet or via texting.  Then, other people join in and continue the harrassment.  Or, someone will send a hateful text but not reveal his/her identity.  In this case, the victim does not know who to accuse or how to resolve the problem, and becomes very anxious and fearful.

Cyber bullies create such a fearful environment for the victim that it has led to the victim committing suicide.
